SF Engineering designs, builds, installs and maintains end-to-end food production line machinery and equipment, operating primarily across the UK and Ireland. They focus on efficiency, hygiene and offering the best return on investment for their customers.
The Challenge
The team at SF Engineering came to us with a disparate ops process they wanted to consolidate and refine for both the UK and Ireland markets. The business was operating across multiple disconnected systems with no overview of what had been installed, where or when. This led to inefficient maintenance planning, SLAs were difficult to track and the data captured throughout the systems wasn’t reliable.
A further complexity was the different processes in the UK and Ireland sides of the business – this lack of consistency was proving a barrier to growth.
Objectives
Once we had a clear understanding of the business and their goals, we scoped out the following objectives together:
- Move the business onto Salesforce and reduce reliance on multiple disconnected systems
- Build full asset tracking and management, including complete work history for every asset
- Create maintenance plans and service contracts that meet SLAs
- Automate time card generation, including engineer pay rates, overtime and holidays
- Implement milestones and SLA tracking to ensure response times are met consistently
- Give engineers a full mobile experience — including offline capability — so they can work effectively on site
- Set up multicurrency functionality to support seamless operations across the UK and Ireland
Our Solution
We implemented Sales Cloud and Field Service to create a centralised platform for SF Engineering to manage their entire business operation, from sales through to asset management.
The team can automate maintenance schedules based on SLAs and contract terms, track assets end-to-end, even if they are repaired or change ownership, and all data lives in one place.
Whilst out in the field, engineers receive job details via the Salesforce mobile app, and based on their work orders and completed jobs, time cards (taking holiday and overtime into account) are automatically generated – a huge time saver for the ops team.
Multicurrency configuration means the UK and Ireland operations now run seamlessly from one platform, with financial data accurately reflected regardless of currency and job location.
Now, with every job, asset and project tracked, SF Engineering have access to a complete view of the data, enabling them to make informed and strategic decisions about the business that enable, not hinder, growth.
Results
“Our business presented a complex set of requirements: two geographic territories, two ERP systems (Sage and SAP), multi-rate engineer scheduling, asset management, mobile field execution, and reporting across service and commercial functions. […]
Simpala brought genuine FSL platform expertise, particularly in scheduling configuration, the dispatcher console, mobile app setup, and asset hierarchy. Jack Myler as PM was a standout — consistent, accessible, and instrumental in keeping the project moving through what became a more complex build than either party initially scoped.
[…] The implementation has given us a single platform for case management, work order lifecycle, engineer dispatch, time capture, and asset tracking — replacing manual processes and disconnected systems.”
